Socially Distant

We might be distant from each other physically, but we needn't be spiritually - and we certainly need not be distant from God...

Today we're thinking about a God of action - so why not try these actions?

At Hadleigh URC we value diversity; so, here are three different versions of the same hymn: a traditional congregational version, a modern worship band version, and a version that is sung in different languages used in India. Enjoy the style that resonates with you!

PSALM 111:4-9

Prayers of Intercession

The Lord does not let us forget his wonderful actions;
   he is kind and compassionate.
He provides food for those who honour him;
   he never forgets his promise.
He has shown his power to his people.

In all he does he is faithful and just;
   all his commands are dependable.
They last for all time;
   they were given in truth and righteousness.
He set his people free
   and made a lasting agreement with them.

What does it say God is like?

What does it say God has done?

Family Prayers

Get your hands dirty!

You could get really messy with paint and make hand prints, or you could just draw around your hands with felt tips. As you make a print, say a prayer for something that you would like God to do (someone who needs help?), or for the outlines, you could write in names or situations.

Bible Reading

MARK 1:21-28

Read by Sarah Thompson (in the NIV)

00:00 / 01:19

They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law.

Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, ‘What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are – the Holy One of God!’

‘Be quiet!’ said Jesus sternly. ‘Come out of him!’ The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek.

The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, ‘What is this? A new teaching – and with authority! He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey him.’ News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee.
